It was a weekend of triumph for the Mighty Reds, as Avalon teams tasted success up and down the peninsula.

On Saturday the U16/2s side confirmed what many already knew was coming, completing a remarkable 14 from 14 winning record and an incredible +74 goal difference to claim the league title.

And Monday night saw them joined by the W14/1s who claimed a make up win over Curl Curl to take an unassailable lead at the top of the league and also claim the season’s honours, with just one defeat.

But scene stealers were the W18/1 side – already league winners with a 12 from 12 record – who created history, taking home the Football New South Wales State Cup title after a gutsy 1-0 win over Shellharbour.

Low on numbers, and suffering from a disrupted and difficult build up to the game, the girls battled valiantly against strong opposition, keeping it scoreless at the break, before grabbing a lead early in the second half.

The Reds kept Shellharbour at bay for the rest of the gaem, largely thanks to an inspired display in goal from Arielle Madew.  The final whistle saw emotional scenes as the reality of the result sunk in.

Co-Coach Jud Harrison was proud of the team, “The resilience, determination and heart demonstrated was truly unbelievable.”

This group now have 6 straight MWFA titles, a Champion of Champions crown and the FNSW State Cup under their belt during an unprecedented run of success. Everyone at Avalon Soccer Club is hugely proud of their efforts, and of all our competition teams so far this season.
