Player Development is a fundamental area of focus for the Avalon Soccer Club. We believe passionately that we should put developing our players’ skills first no matter of their current skill level. We have set ourselves the goal for being the premier grassroots club for Player Development in the MWFA. Winning the 2013 MWFA Presidents Cup for Best Junior Club for the first time in Avalon Soccer Club’s history, shows that we are on the right track but we are still striving to get even better.
Our Player Development strategy has three key areas of focus: Coach Education, AVSC Academy and our School Holiday Clinics.
All of our Player Development Programs are designed in line with the FFA Curriculum Youth Development Building Blocks. This ensures that all of our programs are age and ability appropriate and follow World’s best practice. All of our Player Development Activities are Football NSW sanctioned and are covered by their Personal Accident Insurance Policy.
The AVSC Academy provides coaching for Avalon Soccer Club players outside the team environment. There are several programs to choose from based on player’s age and ability. Some programs are free and some require the participants to pay a fee to help cover the cost of the program.
All programs require a minimum number of participants to go ahead.
The foundation program is for all players registered to play U8, U9 & U10s with Avalon SC. The club’s Junior Coaching Directors (Jud Harrison and Lyndal Carruthers) will be available to attend all team training sessions for these age groups during March and will conduct some ‘model’ training sessions that the team coaches can then run with their teams.
The program will introduce the main elements of the FFA Skill Development program and will give both players and coaches a foundation on which to build throughout the season. This program is FREE.
Skill Acquisition Program (U8-U11)
The Skill Acquisition Program is for those players in the U8-U11 age groups who wish to further develop their football skills outside the team environment. The academy takes place during school terms 2 & 3 and consists of 6x1hr coaching sessions designed to further develop players technical skills. There is a small fee to join this program.
Game Training Program (U12-U15)
The Game Training Program is for players in the U12-U15 age groups and is held during school term 2 & 3. This program will focus on team and tactical skills such as maintaining possession, transitional play, playing out from the back, as well as game sense skills, such as vision and decision making. As with the SAP the program will consist of 6x1hr sessions and there is a small fee for the program.
Performance Program (U16-U18)
The Performance Phase is the final run on the FFA Player Development ladder. This program is for players who are 16 and over. Please contact JK on 0417 667362 or email@example.com for more details.
Talented Player Program (TPP)
The program is based on the FFA Elite Player Skills Acquisition Program (SAP). This program is designed to accelerate the skill development of players at the critical ages of 9 to 13 as this is the age group in which children are best able to learn motor skills. The focus of the Talented Player Program is on functional game skills with an immediate skills transfer to a game situation. Players can expect to finish the program having improved both their technical and game skills as well as enhanced their potential to play at representative level.
TPP is a selective program and attendance is by invite only. Players are invited to attend based on the following criteria:
- Performance during previous season
- Performance at current season grading
- Recommendations from coaches
- Player Attitude
