VANUATU TOUR PREPS IN FULL SWING

After a three year COVID enforced hiatus, the traditional W16 tour to Vanuatu is back for 2023. Started in 2012, the tour is used to promote women’s sport in the region, to offer the team the chance to play against local opposition and allow the Avalon community to make charitable donations to projects on the islands.

This year we have 21 girls from our 2 W16 teams travelling at the end of June for a 9 day trip that will encompass 3 matches, community visits, cyclone recovery work and a meeting at the Australian High Commision in Port Vila.

The trip is entirely self-funded with the team commencing fundraising in August 2022 with numerous cake bakes and BBQs at local events. Stayed tuned to this page for more details on the tour and the fundraising efforts. If you’d like to assist with the tour or sponsor the girls, please contact stuartjrandall@gmail.com.

The tour preps are in full swing now with the group leaving for Port Vila on June 30th. We are delighted to announce that the team have locked in 2 matches against the Vanuatu U16 Women’s national team in the capital on July 6th and July 8th.  This will be great opportunity and experience for the girls, as the VFF look to hone their preparation for September’s Oceania U16 Championship.

The group will also be assisting with cyclone recovery projects, after two devasting weather events hit the island in March.  More recently the girls represented the club in the Anzac Day March, have completed their Miniroos coaching certificate, allowing them to host coaching clinics for U6-U9s on the island, and are feverishly organising a raffle and fundraising event on June 3rd.

Our Raffle is underway with some amazing prizes including Asics boots, a $900 surfboard and a signed Matilda’s jersey! Get your tickets now! https://www.raffletix.com.au/?ref=7u8c9&fbclid=IwAR04fHbeNJA022881RR_o4jaitMpLPVazRIl8ZwOerkSqo2hxGtjoJmSdos
