Avalon Soccer Club is delighted to announce that we will be partnering with local youth suicide prevention organisation One Eighty as our community/charity partner for 2021.
One Eighty was created in response to a number of youth suicides on the Northern Beaches and in particular, from the same year cohort at the local high school as one of the founders.
Passionate about empowering communities, One Eighty fills a gap in Australia’s current suicide prevention strategy. The organisation is leading the way for peer to peer models of community support, is raising the profile of exceptional existing services, and is reimagining what youth engagement in the NFP sector looks like.
Operating locally, One Eighty takes a grassroots bottom up approach with a focus on prevention and early intervention. This includes funding, developing, and implementing youth-focused mental health programs that equip young adults with skills in mental health care.
“We are thrilled to announce a community partnership with Avalon Soccer Club.” says Head of Relationships and Development for One Eighty Maddie Walsh
“The Club has been an incredible support to One Eighty over the last few years, particularly the Senior Mens AL1 team. We can’t wait to continue strengthening this relationship, working together to contribute
to the prevention of youth suicide.”
As a club and community, Avalon has been impacted by youth suicides over the last few years, and President John Kowtan, knows how important a greater focus on prevention is for this area.
“We couldn’t be prouder to come on board with One Eighty for this year. Like many in this area, we’ve lost friends, loved ones and club members to suicide and it has a profund impact on our whole community.” JK said.
“By partnering with One Eighty, who do amazing work in the community, we want to amplify their message and ensure young people in our community know that the support is there. We thank Maddie and the whole One Eighty team for the work that they do.”
