After a difficult week, Avalon Soccer Club delivered a series of emotional tributes to Courtney Jones who passed away last week.

A number of our women’s competition sides took the opportunity to pay tribute to Courtney, who spent over 15 years playing for the club.

On Friday night our 2 W18/1 sides took part in a minutes silence and donned black armbands ahead of their matches at Manly Vale and Narrabeen.

Sunday it was the WAL1/s who honoured Courtney ahead of their win at Harbord, and our table topping WAL3 sides also took part in a moment’s silence before matches against Wakehurst and Beacon Hill.

And the club’s W13/1 side led their own tribute in their match against Forest. The girls – who were coached by Courtney for the last 2 years as part of the club’s buddy program – took part in an emotional minutes silence, and wore yellow ribbons on their wrists to show their support for mental health initiatives.

All at the club greatly appreciate the efforts of our teams across the last week at a difficult time, as well as the support of our fellow MWFA sides in allowing us to pay tribute to a much missed member of our Avalon family.

In honour of Courtney, the Jones family have requested that well wishers raise funds for HeadSpace in her memory. Follow this link to donate in memory of Courtney Jones.  By supporting HeadSpace you will be honouring Courtney’s family and her memory.

Courtney was also fundraising to provide vital equipment, therapy and services to children and adults living with cerebral palsy. Follow this link to continue Courtney’s support of those living with cerebral palsy as a part of her legacy of constant support, empathy and love:…
