As we look ahead to the new season we have a number of new faces across our various committee’s. The most signiciant change comes with a new president for Avalon Soccer Club in 2019.
Avalon local Lee Gallagher was elected President in December with familiar face Greg Jones taking on the Vice President role.
Lee moved to Avalon 5 years ago after a 10 year stint in the North West of Sydney following a move from Wales. Married with 3 kids (2 girls and a boy) all who play football at Avalon Lee has been age coordinator at the Club for the past four seasons, starting in the U9’s through to last year with the U12’s. Lee also coached at U9 level in his first first year and then last season coached the W13 1B team. After a short spell playing at O35 level injuries and age caught up with him, but he remians passionate about all things football and for his sins is a massive Cardiff City fan.
For 2019 I want us to be focusing on football and driving player development through the provision of quality programs run by the club and through the club. The move to bring the Coaching Director onto the Executive Committee is a great first step on this path. Furthermore, I want to ensure that decisions made by the Executive Committee and how those decisions benefit all of our player members and their families, are communicated effectively, both now and into the future.Lee Gallagher – January 2019
We’d like to offer Lee and all our new Committee members a warm welcome.
Our outgoing President John Kowtan stepped down at the end of 2018, following an unprecedented period of growth and success, on and off the field. A life time member of the club “JK” has served in a number of roles at The Bay across nearly two decades from player to merchandise manager, head coach and technical director and president.
A driving force for improvements at the club, JK has overseen a number of major infastructure projects that have seen Careel Bay become a fantastic home for the Reds, and his impact on the club will be keenly felt for years to come, and all of us thank him for his selfless service to Avalon Soccer Club.
Fortunately JK will not be lost to the club, as he’s remaining as Gear Steward and Merchandise Manager to ensure the Reds are looking their best in 2019!
